MARION, Ill. (AP) - An Illinois lawmaker who says he's dreamed most of his life about being a congressman is passing on the chance now.
Democratic state Rep. John Bradley of Marion tells WSIU Radio that he won't seek the 12th District seat being vacated by retiring Democrat Jerry Costello of Belleville.
Bradley says he plans to seek re-election to the Illinois House. He cites family obligations and his district's needs in opting not to run to succeed Costello.
Bradley has served in the state House since 2003 and heads that chamber's revenue committee.
Costello has held the 12th District seat since 1988. He announced earlier this month that he won't seek another 2-year term next year.
