CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) - Faculty at Southern Illinois University Carbondale have set a strike deadline date for November.
According to the SIUC Faculty Association (FA), they voted Thursday night to set the strike deadline for Nov. 3. This is for tenured and tenure-track faculty.
The vote taken by the Departmental Representatives Council call for a strike to begin on Nov. 3 unless the FAs bargaining team reaches a tentative agreement with SIUC administration before that date.
"Even with our strike authorization vote, we've yet to see major progress on the most important issues, said FA spokesman Associate Professor Dave Johnson. "This lack of progress have forced us to set a strike deadline and to be prepared to go on strike if we must."
Negotiations to reach a new contract began in April of 2010 and SIUC faculty have now been working 477 days without a contract, according to the faculty association.
