Pipe to hopefully drain flood waters quicker in Alexander Co.

ALEXANDER COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

Good news for many in some Illinois flood ravaged communities. Flood water that once filled East Cape Girardeau could be a thing of the past.

Alexander County Engineer Jeff Denny says thanks to some money from the Delta Regional Authority the county plans to move forward with a new pipe in the Mississippi River levee near Gale.

Denny says it will drain flood waters quicker from the area.

He adds they hope to start the project within days.

Thursday the Delta River Authority announced 60 new investments across the region, worth more than $66 million.
