Cape Casino to start take applications soon

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - A portion of Main Street in Cape Girardeau re-opened to traffic on Thursday.

It has been closed since April as construction crews continue working to re-locate Main Street as part of the design for the upcoming Isle of Capri casino.

The street project however is not complete, so drivers should expect lane closures and other delays over the next few weeks.

"I am pleased that our citizens can now drive by and look at the progress," said Cape Girardeau Mayor Harry Rediger.

Meanwhile, a lot of work is happening at the casino site. The Isle construction team is working on building the floating platform for the casino.

Isle's Vice President for Design and Construction says before long they'll start taking applications.

"We're anticipating the general manager, whoever he or she is, to be in place by the end of the year," said Dick Meister-VP of Design and Construction. "Right after that they'll start hiring staff and setting up a training program."

Meister says the casino is still expected to open by December of 2012.
