Hundreds turn out to Cape Girardeau Job Fair

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - About 30 companies greeted hundreds of job seekers at a job fair at the Osage Centre in Cape Girardeau Thursday.

With Menards and the Isle of Capri Casino coming to Cape Girardeau, Mitch Robinson with the Cape Area Magnet says more businesses are interested in expanding to the city.

He says representatives from a large call center were at the Osage Centre Thursday to gauge the local work force to see if the company will open an office in Cape Girardeau.

"They try to get a feel for the workforce," said Robinson. "(And) what it is gonna cost to get them to come into the market, and then they'll go back and look at the numbers and try to get comfortable that they can find a workforce here that will be available to them for long term, and not just an initial hiring."

He says if the city is picked, there could be up to 500 job openings in the next couple of years.

Robinson says its projects like this that make him think the job outlook in Cape is positive.

The job fair goes until 7 p.m. Thursday.
