New Madrid man sentenced for gun, drug charges

(KFVS) -

A New Madrid man was sentenced to five years in prison for gun and drug charges.

Tommie Williams, 56, was sentenced to five years on one felony count of being previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm and one felony count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine base, according to the United State's Attorney's Office Eastern District of Missouri.

State law enforcement officers searched Williams' home on Mott Street in New Madrid on Aug. 23, 2010.  Officers found five firearms and 2.55 grams of cocaine base packaged in four plastic bags, each containing five small rocks of cocaine base in his bedroom.

With his plea, Williams acknowledged that he possessed the cocaine for the purpose of selling it to others.

Due to Williams' previous conviction for murder in the second degree, he was prohibited from possessing firearms.
