KARBERS RIDGE, IL (KFVS) -

A Williamson County man fell at the Garden of the Gods in Saline County Saturday evening.

Saline County central dispatch says they received a 911 call of a man that had fallen in the rocks at the Garden of the Gods shortly before 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Lt. Tracy Felty with the sheriff's office says the 18-year-old man is from Carterville and fell an estimated 25 feet on the trail near Camel Rock at the Garden of the Gods.

Officers say the man had a possible head injury but was conscious and alert when brought to the ambulance. He was flown from the scene by Air Evac helicopter to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

The name of the injured man is currently being withheld pending notification of the family.

Saline County Deputies, Saline County EMS and the Illinois State Police responded to the location and assisted in bringing the subject to a waiting ambulance.

Saline County Sheriff Keith Brown cautions site seers to the Garden of the Gods, that the changing leaf colors bring out many visitors to the park, but the same leaves are falling as well and will make the trails slick at times. "Use caution when walking in and around the trails and make your trip to the park a safe one," said Brown.
