DES PLAINES, Ill. (AP) - A memorial to the 273 victims of the American Airlines Flight 191 crash is to be unveiled.
Family members of the victims will gather Saturday for a dedication ceremony at a park in the Chicago suburb of Des Plaines. The flight crashed just after taking off from Chicago's O'Hare International Airport on May 25, 1979. The crash was the deadliest, non-terror-related airplane disaster in U.S. aviation history. The crash of the DC-10 killed all 271 aboard and two on the ground.
The memorial will be not far from where the aircraft went down. The curved stone wall will have all of the victims' names. Organizers expect more than 1,000 people, including more than 120 families of victims at the dedication ceremony.
