2 southern Illinois school districts want to consolidate

CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) - At John A. Logan Community College on Thursday, Illinois Lt. Governor Sheila Simon hosted a "Classrooms First Commission" hearing.

The commission was formed to find ways to improve efficiency and learning at schools statewide.

At the public meeting superintendents from Christopher and Ziegler Royalton schools told the commission that they want to consolidate their school districts.

The school leaders say the merger could double the number of courses offered to high school students.

The two districts already share several courses, such as Spanish, auto mechanics and some sports.

A vote on consolidating the two school districts could be on the ballot as soon as November 2012.
