Police investigate spree of fake $20 bills

DEXTER, MO (KFVS) - Dexter Police are investigating a spree of counterfeit bills found at several businesses in town.

Detective Mills with the Dexter Police Department says several $20 bills were found at eight Dexter businesses.

On October 6, the fake $20 bills were handed out at six locations:

  • 4 counterfeit at Dexter Queen
  • 4 Counterfeit bills at Dexter Sav A Lot
  • 2 at Rhodes
  • 3 at Dollar General
  • 2 at Taco Bell
  • 2 Dexter Bar B Que

Four more fake bills were reported at Sprockets Landing between Oct. 5 and Oct. 8.

Another fake bill was found at the Wal-Mart.

Police have surveillance video from Dexter Queen and Sav A Lot.

Police believe two people arrested in Poplar Bluff may be connected to the fake bills in Dexter and also counterfeit bills in Sikeston, Poplar Bluff, and Cape Girardeau.

Police expect to make more arrests.

    A fundraiser is in effect in Southern Illinois between Shawnee Tactical Solutions and the Stop the Bleeding Coalition to put specialized trauma kits in the hands of police departments.

    In an effort to save more lives in active shooter situation and beyond, Shawnee Tactical Solutions and the Stop the Bleeding Coalition are partnering up to put special trauma kits in the hands of police officers.
