Red Cross reminds public of fire danger

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Ahead of the holiday season, the Red Cross would like to remind everyone that October is Fire Prevention Month.

The Red Cross says home fires increase between October and January because of cooking fires and Christmas trees catching fire.

House fires make up 94% of the 74,000 disasters Red Cross Disaster Action Teams respond to.

If you would like to be a volunteer for a Disaster Action Team, or help out in another way at the Red Cross, you can reach the organization at or at 573-335-9471 x 304.
