Members of the Sons of the American Revolution, Long Knife Chapter gathered to pay tribute to fallen firefighter Corey Shaw.

Shaw lost his life earlier this Summer fighting a fire in Pinckneyville.

And the S.A.R. members wanted to recognize his bravery and sacrifice with an award presented to Shaw's father and mother.

The Firefighters' Commendation Certificate and Medal were handed to Corey's father Bob Shaw, who is also the Fire Chief in Du Quoin, Illinois.

"They are paying honor to my son who sacrificed his life fighting a fire in Pinckneyville. And it's nice for him to be honored. It's a good thing for the family. It's a good thing to be recognized," said Shaw.

"Corey loved being a firefighter and he followed my footsteps into the job. This will be something we can share with his daughter when she gets a little older."

Shaw's award will be recognized by the local chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, and the groups national headquarters too.
