A western Kentucky Fire Department celebrates a milestone Saturday.

The Hendron Fire Department in rural Paducah will host a 50-year anniversary event.

The all-volunteer department was formed in 1961 by the Hendron Lions Club.

Saturday, firefighters will show off the department's equipment, capabilities, facilities, its members and its 50 years of vibrant history.

Kids are welcome to attend the event to learn about home fire safety, emergency medical services and the fire service.

Fire officials hope the event will spark an interest in future volunteers.

The celebration is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the fire station located on A.T. Massa Drive.
