SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

Police have released the name of the man who drowned Thursday night in a Sikeston pond.

Johnny Taylor, 20, drowned Thursday night at the Sikeston Sports Complex pond.

According to Sikeston Department of Public Safety Lieutenant Jim McMillen they took a call of a possible drowning in the pond around 10:30 Thursday night.

When police arrived at the pond, they found 2 people who told them their friend was missing. The two told police they were walking in the water in about 3-5 feet of water when one of them went under.

They told police they tried to help the man but he never came back up to the surface. The Sikeston Special Operations Group used their two rescue boats to assist in locating Taylor.

Police say they found Taylor's body in the pond around 1:30 a.m. Friday.
