Friday morning house fire a close call for family

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Friday morning a mom and her young son were able to escape a house fire in Cape Girardeau.

The fire happened at a home on the 1400 block of North Main Street shortly after 2 a.m.

According to the mother, Emma Foster, she was up most of the night trying to get her baby to sleep.

Foster tells Heartland News she had just got him down and was starting to cook something to eat on the stove when some oil splattered out of the pan, caught fire and spread quickly up the kitchen wall.

Foster said she tried to put it with flour but it was too large.

She called 911 and firefighters were able to quickly get the fire under control.

The mom, her son and another man were all able to get out of the home without injury. Fire investigators estimate there is approximately $20,000 damage to the home.
