Crews find missing hikers at Trail of Tears

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

There search is over for two hikers who got lost in the Trail of Tears state park in Cape Girardeau County.

The East County fire chief says crews found the two around 9:05 p.m. Monday.

They went missing around 7 p.m.

The fire chief says they got turned around in the park and once it got dark they couldn't find their way out.

The two were in touch with the sheriff's department and deputies relayed information to searchers.

Once crews figured out where the hikers were they've told them to stay put while they went to them.

Searchers are walking the two out of the park and to safety.
