Many enjoy sights and sounds of southern Ill. Irish Festival

CARBONDALE, IL (KFVS) -

Once again another day of beautiful sunshine and cooler temperatures in the Heartland set the stage for this year's southern Illinois Irish Festival in Carbondale.

The sound of Scottish bag pipes filled the afternoon air Sunday as people enjoyed some of the Celtic craftsman's creations.

And a bit of jousting by the medieval combat society kept the people entertained with their reenactment of ancient battles.

But for many people the southern Illinois Irish Festival is all about the music.

"There's not a real active Scottish or Irish culture down in this part of the state, I would say compared to Chicago," said Byran Kelso-Crow. "But lots of people can still identify with the music and like the dancing and all, so it pleases everybody."

This marks the 15th year that the sights and sounds of the festival have entertained people in the region.

The festivities wrap up Sunday evening.
