Redhawks win first game of seasonQ

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - Southeast Missouri amassed 411 rushing yards en route to a 37-30 win over Eastern Illinois Saturday night.

Southeast Missouri (1-3, 1-1 OVC) went up 14-10 on a 2-yard touchdown pass from Matt Scheible to Marq Goodlitt with less than a minute remaining in the first half. Eastern Illinois (1-4, 0-3 OVC) responded with an 83-yard touchdown return on the ensuing kickoff by Tavares Crawford to stake the Panthers to a 17-10 halftime lead.

The momentum swung in favor of Southeast Missouri late in the second half as they went up 37-23 on an 18-yard touchdown scramble by Scheible with 7:55 left to play in the game. Eastern Illinois narrowed the gap 37-30 when Jimmy Garoppolo hit Adam Drake for a 22-yard touchdown pass with a minute remaining, but the Panthers failed to recover the onside kick.
