Ribbon-cutting at New Madrid soybean production plant

NEW MADRID, MO (KFVS) -

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Friday to celebrate the grand opening of Pioneer Hi-Bred's largest soybean production plant.

The new facility, located on 129 acres of land near Interstate 55, will begin operations in October as soybean harvest gets underway in the area.

The $60 million parent and commercial soybean seed production plant employs more than 65 people, and may hire more during peak operational needs.

Gov. Jay Nixon says he's glad Pioneer is investing in Missouri's workforce.

This is the first Pioneer seed production facility in Missouri.  It will primarily serve soybean growers in the southern United States.

Pioneer has a research facility in Miami, Mo. for corn, soybean, sorghum and wheat seed.
