Three schools have closed for classes on Thursday due to power outages. Du Quoin and Vienna High School in Illinois and Kelso schools in Missouri. A small animal, possibly a squirrel, caused a power outage to nearly 1,000 Ameren Illinois customers in Johnson County. No word on what caused the other outages.

Police in Charleston are still looking for suspects involved a shooting Wednesday afternoon.

The man accused of a Carbondale murder on September 14 pleaded not guilty Thursday. Julia Bruck gets reaction tonight from the victim's family.

One union at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale has approved a strike authorization, and three more are slated to vote on similar questions.
