Old Cape Girardeau barn destroyed by overnight fire

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Firefighters in Cape Girardeau got an early call Wednesday morning at 2:19 of a large fire on the north end of town on Perryville Road.

They found an old barn completely engulfed in flames in the woods across from Cherokee Park. This is located near Westminster Presbyterian Church at 1855 Perryville Road.

Firefighters initially had a hard time getting to the blaze because of a small access road through the trees.

Within a half hour the old barn had collapsed. Flames could be seen shooting into the sky for many blocks around the scene.

As of 3 a.m. firefighters were still on scene but had the fire under control.

The cause of the fire and where it began is under construction.

The fire destroyed the barn, according to the Cape Girardeau Fire Department.
