Regional kick--off for Operation Christmas Child

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -

It's already beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Jackson, MO.

September 26, 2011 is the Cape Girardeau regional kick-off for Operation Christmas Child.

Operation Christmas Child is a large scale organization which began in the United States in 1993.

It's a division of Samaritan's Purse founded by Franklin Graham.

In 2010, the United States collected 8.2 million shoe boxes which were delivered to more than 130 countries.

Last year the boxes gathered from the Cape Girardeau area went to India.

No word yet on where the boxes will head in 2012.

The national goal this year is 8.2 million shoe boxes. The regional goal is 17,500 shoe boxes.

The regional kick-off this year will take place at Crossroads Fellowship church in Jackson at 6:30pm.

The guest speakers are from Operation Christmas Child Headquarters.

A local woman who was a recipient of an Operation Christmas Child shoe box as a child, will also speak.

This year Crossroads Fellowship is the relay center for O.C.C.
