Mayfield man faces murder, other charges following crash

MARSHALL COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

A Mayfield man is facing murder charges plus additional charges after an early morning crash in Marshall County, Ky. that killed two people.

Deputies say the crash happened around 3:30 a.m. on US 68 near Needmore Road in the Palma community.

Alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash, according to deputies.

According to the sheriff's office, Michael K. Williams, 27, of Mayfield was arrested and charged with 2 counts of murder, 1 count of assault 1st degree, 1 count of wanton endangerment 1st degree, DUI 2nd offense and operating on a suspended driver's license.

Williams was going east on US 68 near Needmore Road when he lost control of the car on a curve, overturned and hit a utility pole before the car came to a stop, according to the sheriff's office.

Passengers in the car, Michael J. Hoy, Jr., 34, of Benton and Kaytlin E. Lamb, 21, of Benton died at the scene from their injuries, deputies said.

Passenger Billy W. Humphrey, Jr., 24, of Paducah was injured in the crash and taken to a Paducah hospital.

An additional passenger Monica Draffen, 30, of Benton was taken to a Marshall County hospital following minor injuries.

The crash was investigated by Deputy Mark Balentine of the Marshall County Sheriff's Office.
