A motorcycle driver is dead following a crash vs. a truck early Friday afternoon in Jackson County.
It happened around 12:24 p.m. on South Illinois Highway 127 at the entrance to Salt Petre Cave.
According to the sheriff's office, a Silverado was northbound on IL 127 and was turning into Salt Petre Cave when a BMW motorcycle going southbound on 127 hit the truck .
The motorcyclist was thrown and received severe injuries, deputies said. Paramedics took the man to a Murphysboro hospital were he later died.
Deputies say the driver of the truck was ticketed for failure to yield making a left turn.
The names are being withheld pending family being notified.
