Canadian company makes Red Cross donation in Illinois

The American Red Cross of Little Egypt got a helping hand in recovering from spring flooding Friday from a Canadian company.

Canadian National Railway presented the local Red Cross with a check for $37,500 in Carbondale. The money will go toward flood relief efforts.

"Everything Red Cross does is 100-percent supported by the American people," said Patrick Waldron with the railway. "It's all donations this is our community coming together including the businesses. Illinois is our largest state in the United States, more than 1,000 employees with the biggest physical operation in the US we have. So, we felt it was important to make our specific donation here in southern Illinois."

Railway employees made this check possible along with a match by the company.

The Red Cross says the flood relief this past spring cost nearly $230,000.
