State, local officers team up warning seniors of scams

GOLCONDA, IL (KFVS) -

State police and deputies in Pope County are teaming up to warn seniors about being targeted in scams.

Sheriff Jerry Suits has teamed up with the Illinois State Police Dist. 22 Safety Education Office to address various scam tactics in the area.

Suits plans an educational presentation to warn of the dangers.

"Individuals not adequately educated on the tactics criminals use to target them are a vulnerable demographic," said Suits. "I wanted to create an opportunity to provide seniors the tools necessary to be aware and to guard themselves against scam artist."

The presentation is scheduled for September 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the Golden Circle Senior Center in Golconda.
