Students, teachers back in classrooms at Qulin Elementary

Damage from the June storm. Damage from the June storm.
QULIN, MO (KFVS) -

After storms on June 11 ripped off most of Qulin Elementary's roof, all students and teachers were back in the new and improved school on Sept. 22.

"Today was the first day all of the elementary students, Kindergarten through 4th, were back in their classrooms," said Superintendent Mike Stevenson.

Since the first day of school on Aug. 24, students and teachers have either had class at Fisk Elementary or the middle school in Qulin.

Stevenson says to fix all of the damage, it cost about $500,000, but thanks to insurance their total bill will only be $1000.

He also says Thursday the school is even better than before the storm.

He says they were able to make improvements all throughout the school, including new drop ceilings, ceramic tile, as well as new camera and air conditioning systems.

Stevenson says all the improvements weren't aesthetic.  He says most importantly it is now a much safer building.
