Campus Habitat fined for outstanding code violations, citations


Some apartments that once housed a number of SIU Carbondale students are being fined for outstanding code violations and citations.

According to the City of Carbondale, Judge Solverson of the First Judicial Circuit Court of Jackson County, Illinois, assessed fines Wednesday against Campus Habitat, LLC.

The fines plus costs for the apartments at 600 West Freeman Street came to $25,000, due to failure to repair the HVAC system, according to the City.

There were also fines levied for 820 West Freeman Street said the City, for failure to repair peeling paint. They were assessed in the amount of $5,000, plus the costs of court proceedings.

The total fines and costs for failure to provide a lease to a tenant are $245.
