DEXTER, MO (KFVS) -

Dexter authorities say a high school senior went to Dexter police officer Kevin Moore's aid after he got hurt.

Dexter's assistant chief says 18-year-old Tasha Rogers went to help Moore as he tried to break up a fight at the Dexter McDonalds parking lot.

Police say 20-year-old Austin Mace punched Moore and he fell to the ground striking his face on the concrete.

"I've talked to him," said Assistant Police Chief Charles Sanders.  "He's in good spirits.  Just a little bit of pain.  He'll recover.  The doctors don't think there's anything permanent. We don't know until it's all done."

While authorities commend Rogers for her actions they offer a warning.

"We ask that if something's really bad we don't want anybody to get hurt," Sanders said.  "For her to take it upon herself, you know, and to jump right in and help the officers.  It's very courageous.  But, you know, we're glad she didn't get hurt or anybody else go hurt.  But it was good that she helped."

Assistant Chief Sanders says they expect Moore will be back to work in the next few weeks.
