Tough economic times hit fair vendors

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Tough economic times have hit just about everyone, even the vendors at the SEMO District Fair.

Wendy Reynolds from the Garden of the Gods area in southern Illinois has spent the past 22 years selling things like corn dogs, funnel cakes and blackberry shake-ups at local fairs and events.

She says what's hurt her the most is the rising cost of food, saying when that happens it's hard to keep prices low and stay competitive.

"We try to keep our prices reasonable because we want people to feel good when they come to the fair," said Reynolds.

Reynolds says for the most part though, people will come to events like the fair and spend money.

She believes people save up to splurge when the fair comes to town.
