Cell Phones for Soldiers drive to keep service members connected

(KFVS) -

State Rep. Jerry Costello II (D-Smithton), a former Army paratrooper, is holding a cell phone drive to help servicemen and women overseas connect with their families back home.

The Cell Phones for Soldiers program sells donated cell phones and uses the money to purchase prepaid calling cards for overseas service members.

Cell Phones for Soldiers hopes to collect 50,000 cell phones each month through a network of more than 3,000 collection sites across the country.

Collection boxes will be at:

  • Rep. Costello's District Office, 128 A W. Main, Sparta
  • Red Bud SWIC Campus, 500 W. South Fourth, Red Bud
  • Cahokia Public Library, 140 Cahokia Park Drive, Cahokia
  • Chester Public Library, 733 State Street, Chester
  • Morrison-Talbott Library, 215 Park Street, Waterloo
