Another charged with assault of Dexter officer

Another man police say was involved in a fight that injured a police offices now faces an assault charge.

According to the probable cause statement, Patrolman Kevin Moore was seriously injured after responding to a fight in the McDonald's parking lot Monday night.

Police say Austin Mace, his brother and their father, Terry Mace were all fighting.

Police say Austin Mace assaulted Moore as he was trying to Tase Terry Mace.

Now, Terry Mace also faces assault of a police officer charge.

Austin Mace, 20, is charged with first degree assault of a police officer.

Austin Mace told police the argument started over some money stolen from the night before.  He said he ran to protect his father when he says Moore Tased his father and "blacked out" during the incident, but admits to striking Patrolman Moore.

According to the probable cause statement, Austin Mace rushed from the crowd and hit Moore on the left side of his face with a closed fist, according to the probable cause statement.

Moore became unconscious and fell, hitting the concrete edge of the sidewalk on the right side of his face.

Moore was taken to Missouri Southern Healthcare and later air-lifted to St. Louis University Hospital with multiple facial fractures.

Moore told Heartland News in a text that "the swelling is still pretty bad. It does hurt still."

Austin told police he struggles with controlling his anger and was sorry for his actions.

He wrote a letter to Moore asking him to forgive him.
