Carter Co. man sentenced to 10 years in prison

CARTER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

A Carter County man learned his fate for firearms charges.

Phillip Wayne Catlett was sentenced to 10 years in prison for a felony charge of being a former felon in possession of a firearm.

A jury found Catlett guilty on June 22, 2011 of firing several rounds from a .22 caliber rifle into a home in Hunter in Carter County in July of 2010.

The people inside the home were able to escape unharmed.

Carter County deputies responded and found Catlett with the gun.  Catlett was able to escape.

He was on the run for two months.

He was born and raised in Carter County and says his knowledge of the forest, creeks and back roads helped him survive while on the run.

He ran for two months until he was found in a Carter County home hiding under a pile of clothes in a closet.

A .22 caliber rifle was also found in the home.

Due to Catlett's previous felony convictions, including stealing,tampering with evidence, and abandonment of a corpse, he was prohibited from possessing firearms.
