METROPOLIS, IL (KFVS) -

A police chase in Metropolis lands a man behind bars.

According to Police Chief Mike Worthen, an officer saw 23-year-old Melvin Davis Jr. of Metropolis walking on West 10th street around 10:30 Monday night.

The officer knew Davis was wanted on an outstanding Massac County arrest warrant for failure to appear on a charge of battery and obstructing a police officer. So, the officer told Davis to stop.

According to Chief Worthen, Davis ran off. The officer arrested Davis after a two block long chase.

During the investigation, an officer found a .32 caliber handgun they believe Davis tossed out when he was running from the original officer.

Davis faces multiple charges including unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, resisting a peace officer, and possession of a firearm without the required Firearm Owner's Identification Card.

Davis was taken to the Massac County Detention Center.
