A Valle Catholic first grader heads to the Cardinals pitching mound

STE. GENEVIEVE, MO (KFVS) -

Thursday afternoon school uniforms at Valle Catholic were replaced with Cardinals gear.  This was all in support of first grader Aly Bauman who has the honor of throwing out the first pitch at the Cardinals game this Saturday.

Aly's been fighting a rare condition called Portal Vein Thrombosis.  Since she was two years old, she's received about 395 blood transfusions.

The entire school threw Aly a pep-rally to help her get ready for the big event on Saturday.

Days like this are so important, because she gets to forget about her next transfusion and focus on being a normal first grader.

The school also had a celebrity guest show up at the rally....Fredbird!

Thanks to the support of her family and the help of others, Aly has gotten to have a couple practice pitches.

Make sure to keep an eye out for the star pitcher this Saturday at the Cardinals game!
