Shawneetown man pleads guilty to meth offense

A Shawneetown man pleaded guilty to a meth offense on September 7.

George A. Bivins, 38, of Shawneetown pleaded guilty to a one count indictment charging him with possession of a listed chemical (pseudoephedrine) knowing it would be used to manufacture a controlled substance (methamphetamine).

The violation took placed from January 2010 to June 2, 2011 in Saline County.

Bivins' sentencing hearing is set for 2 p.m. on January 5, 2012.

Bivins admitted to the court that he would obtain pseudoephedrine pills for use in manufacturing meth, according to the United States Attorney Stephen R. Wigginton Southern District of Illinois.

The offense carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000 or both.
