Ky. sees improvements in higher education measures

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky is showing progress on several measures that gauge improvements in higher education.

The National Center for Higher Education Management Systems documented the improvements in a report released with much fanfare Wednesday morning in the Capitol's state reception room, a venue typically reserved for major announcements.

The report ranked Kentucky in the Top 5 nationally on a half dozen measures, including growth in the number of adults with college degrees.

Aims McGuinness Jr., a senior associate at the center, said the newly compiled numbers show that Kentucky is improving. But he said major gaps remain.

Kentucky has been pushing to increase the number of people who receive college degrees.

That push, McGuinness said, has given the state a strong reputation nationally for higher education reform.
