ISP to donate funds to Joplin police tornado victims

Illinois State Police have made a donation to tornado victims of Joplin's police force.

According to a release, a donation of $1,297 will be forwarded to the "Joplin 10-33 Fund," to help Joplin police families in need of assistance following the tornado devastation in May 2011.

"When we see our fellow law enforcement partners and their families confronted by such devastation, we must answer the call," ISP Trooper Cary Morin said. "We know firsthand about the dangers and risk officers take to protect and serve others, and we want out fellow officers and their families to know that we are here for them in their time of need."

Trooper Morin reportedly had the idea to donate to the officers when he read an article online about the families' difficulties.

"The generosity of our nation and fellow police officers continues to amaze and touch me," said Joplin Police Chief Lane Roberts. "The Joplin Police Department is humbled and appreciative by ISPs efforts and good wishes."

Donations were made through PayPal, individual and group donations, family, friends and fellow officers.
