SEMO food bank ready to feed 300 families in Jackson

JACKSON, MO (KFVS) -

Officials with the SEMO food bank were in Jackson Saturday morning prepared to feed 300 families.

The event was at the Main Street Lanes in Jackson.

Around 9 a.m. there were 100 people in line to be served. Executive Director Karen Green said that she anticipated more people to show.

"The food bank serves around 16 counties," said Green. "Most of those counties are some of the poorest in the state of Missouri. We know we are still in a recession, the economy is down. There's a lot of people, even though they are employed they don't make enough to feed their families, so we are here to help."

Chick-Fil-A was also there handing out sandwiches.

"This is the first time I've heard of this type of thing in Jackson," said Beverly Glover. "It's awesome what they are doing."
