One Tank Trip: Johnson's Shut Ins

REYNOLDS COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - This week's One Tank Trip takes us to Johnson's Shut Ins in Reynolds County, Missouri.

The natural water park was created by the east fork of the Black River and billions of years of work by Mother Nature.

"It's really something to see," said Gary Blevins. "Just the uniqueness. It's amazing we really enjoyed bringing the family here."

Swimming, hiking, and camping are the most popular things to do.

"I'm sure we'll be back, the kids really enjoyed it," said Betty Blevins.

"It's a really pretty place," said five year old, Avery.

To look at it today, you wouldn't know disaster hit the Shut-Ins in December of 2005. The Taum Sauk Reservoir broke flooding the park and the campground. In 2009 the park reopened to swimmers and then campers in 2010. Today you see signs that read: If warning sirens sound, immediately leave the area, but no one we met seems afraid.

"We're too focused on cooling off in the water," said Blevins.

Take Highway 21 to Highway N to get to Johnson's Shut-ins. It's located in Middlebrook, Mo. in Reynolds County.
