KENNETT, MO (KFVS) - The man accused of the murder of a 3-year-old Senath girl faces an additional charge.
Shawn Morgan, 43, from Senath is charged with 1st degree murder, armed criminal action and tampering with physical evidence in the disappearance of Breeann Rodriguez.
He now also faces a charge of child kidnapping.
In addition to the amended charge, Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Stephen Sokoloff filed a notice of statutory aggravating circumstances, which will permit the state to seek the death penalty for the 1st degree murder charge.
Sokoloff says he has spoken with Breeann's parents and they are in support of prosecutor's actions.
Morgan made his second appearance in court Tuesday over pending council status. He did not enter a plea.
The 3-year-old and her bike went missing on August 6 in front of her home on Ode Johnson Road.
According to the probable cause statement, Morgan suffocated the girl using a white plastic trash bag. He told police "he felt like it took an hour for the girl to die."
Morgan told police he put the her body in the same trash bag, drove to the floodway ditches of Hwy. 164 and threw her over the railing.
When he came back to his house, he took apart her bicycle and threw it in the same river system, according to court documents.
Breeann's body was found Aug. 16 by a member of the Missouri Highway Patrol's water patrol division who was searching by boat.
Morgan's next court appearance is set for Sept. 13 at 9 a.m. in Kennett.
