METROPOLIS, IL (KFVS) -

A Massac County man is behind bars after police say he drove around a public housing complex waving a gun.

According to police in Metropolis, officers were called to the Strickland Apartments around 1:30 Tuesday morning for a report of a man driving fast around the apartments and pointing a pistol at them.

An officer found a truck matching the witness description in an alley on West 18th street. 37-year-old James Hall was arrested after police found ammunition and a holster inside his truck.

An Illinois State Trooper who was called in to help with the investigation found a .40 caliber pistol and a spare magazine hidden under a trash can, according to the police department.

According to investigators, neighbors said Hall approached them in their yard and pulled a gun from his back pocket.

Hall faces charges of unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm without the required firearm owner's identification card, and aggravated assault.
