Deputies investigate 3 crashes involving motorcycles

JACKSON COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department is investigating three different crashes, all involving motorcycles.

On August 26th, a man from Oraville was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle.

According to the sheriff's department, 67-year-old Carolus Bond was driving southbound on Saupe road when he lost control. Bond was flown to a St. Louis hospital where he died of his injuries.

On Sunday, August 28th, deputies were called to Route 127, just north of the Union County line for a report of a motorcycle crash. It happened just before 3:30 p.m. Investigators say 49-year-old James Masters of Anna was driving through a parking lot when he hit a parked car and kept driving.

According to the sheriff's department, Masters lost control of his motorcycle as he drove onto Route 127 and crashed his bike. He was taken to a St. Louis hospital with major injuries.

Deputies said Masters was cited for driving under the influence, improper lane usage, operating a motorcycle without classification, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Just before 8 o'clock that same night, deputies were called to a crash on Springer Ridge Road near Pete's Road in rural Carbondale.

Investigators said 46-year-old Mark Spurlock of Cobden was driving a motorcycle when he lost control of the bike in a curve. Deputies said he was thrown from the motorcycle.

Spurlock was taken to a St. Louis hospital with major injuries.

According to the sheriff's department, he was cited for driving while license revoked, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and driving under the influence.
