3 new laws take effect in Missouri

JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KFVS) -

Three new laws take effect Sunday dealing with adoption, abortion and concussions.

The first new law that takes effect today would make it easier for adopted adults to get information on their biological parents.

Governor Jay Nixon signed the law back in July.

It provides adopted adults access to information about a deceased biological parent if the other biological parent consents, is unknown, has died or can't be notified.

The new law also allows children of someone who was adopted and has died to have access to the same information.

Two other new Missouri laws go into effect today as well.

There are new restrictions on late-term abortions that allows abortions late in a woman's pregnancy only if the mother's life depends on it, or if the pregnancy would pose a major health risk.

The other new law aims at cutting down on the number of concussions in young athletes.

Players who appear to be suffering from a concussion or brain injury would be removed from games and/or practice, benching them for at least 24 hours.

Injured athletes would only be allowed to return when cleared by a health care provider.
