Woman pleads guilty to robbing bank in Altenburg

PERRY COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

A Perry County woman has pleaded guilty to a 2010 armed bank robbery in Altenburg.

According to the US Attorney's Office, Teresa A. Aguilera, 35, pleaded guilty to armed bank robbery, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

She appeared Friday before US District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh, Jr.

With her plea, Aguilera admitted that she took the money from the Bank of Altenburg on Dec. 14, 2010 by using force, violence and intimidation, and in so doing, she assaulted and put the life of the tellers, other bank employees and customers in jeopardy by use of a dangerous weapon.

As a previously convicted felon, Aguilera was forbidden from possessing the rifle she used during the bank robbery.

Aguilera now faces a maximum punishment of life imprisonment and fines of $750,000.

Sentencing has been set for November 21, 2011.
