Teen accused of shooting baby denied bond

CHICAGO (AP) - A judge has denied bond to two Chicago teenagers accused of shooting a 1-year-old girl in the head while firing at a man they believed was a rival gang member.

Gary Moore and Frederick Dean, both 16, were charged Wednesday as adults with two counts of attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm.

Authorities say the toddler and her teenage aunt were walking a dog along a South Side street when shots were fired.

Prosecutors say the girl underwent brain surgery Thursday at Children's Memorial Hospital.

Assistant State's Attorney John Dillon told Judge Laura Sullivan witnesses identified Moore and Dean as the gunmen. In arguing against bond, Dillon said the two "pose a real and present threat."

It wasn't immediately known if the two have legal representation.
