Crime Reaches Record Lows

Do you feel safer today than five, ten years ago? From violence in the workplace to kids killing kids in school, how safe are we? When it comes to violent crime, the FBI's numbers are down. In fact, for the eighth straight year we've seen a sharp decline, specifically in crimes like murders, rapes, and robberies.

But, people still don't feel safer."Anytime you pick up a paper you see some purse snatcher, thief, murderer" says Cape Girardeau resident, ERNEST SUTTON, "I don't think it's any different than it always has been."

Murders reported to the police are at a 33 year old low and overall violent crime to 21 year low. Experts say the bottom line is there are fewer people out there in the age group that typically commit crimes baby boomers, a big chunk of the population are past their crime years.
