Old "Esicar's Meats" building goes up for auction, business opened in 1934

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Financial problems are forcing one Cape Girardeau business owner to take action.

The old Esicar's Meat Shop went up for auction Sunday, August 21 from noon to 5 p.m.

Hundreds of people were hoping to bid on everything from the inside to the building itself.

Esicar's opened it's doors in 1934.

The owner says if the building doesn't sell,  he will hold on to the property.

The place was a Cape Girardeau staple for years before closing in 2007. It was then re-opened by Jack Whisnant as "Old Hickory Specialty Meats" in 2008.

The owner says he'd like to thank his customers and the community for their support, but he just doesn't have the money to re-open the place after a fire did some damage to the place several months ago.

Whisnant says he would like to get back into the business sometime in the future.
