Southeast adds extra cameras, security measures for safety

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

With more students on the Southeast Missouri State campus this year, there are more eyes to watch them.

The university continues to add cameras and new security measures and was recently named the "Safest College Campus in Missouri."

Southeast's public safety director has been at the university for 27-years considers his department second to none.

"There is always room for improvement but we rank toward the top," said Director Doug Richards. "We are one of the most advanced departments on a college campus you will find."

They take security pretty seriously and have close to 400 cameras to prove it.

While the university has an emergency text message and e-mail alert system they're also trying to focus more on the "old school" public address system.

They're adding more outside and inside intercoms in case of an emergency.
