SCOTT CITY, MO (KFVS) -

Much of the mess had been cleaned up, but traffic was still moving slowly late Thursday following at least two wrecks on Interstate-55 southbound in Scott County.

Early Friday morning traffic was back to normal according to the Scott County Sheriff's Department.

Last night, traffic was at a standstill and backed up for about ten miles for awhile after a semi jackknifed at the 84.4 mile marker and lost part of its load.

The crash happened when the steel rods being carried by the semi shifted forward, breaking the front of trailer.

The driver of the truck was not hurt.

The second crash occurred a short time later at the 86.8 mile marker of the southbound lane when a 2008 Dodge driven by Don Wong of Rolling Meadows, IL, failed to slow own for traffic congestion.

According to an online crash report from the Missouri Highway Patrol, Wong's vehicle rear-ended a 2008 Buick driven by Kelly Roberts of Gatewood, MO.

A 17-year-old passenger in Roberts' vehicle was taken to St. Francis Medical Center with moderate injuries.
